Craftsmanship and know-how is a legacy in the Auder family.

Son of a roofer, Stéphane decided to start an apprenticeship in roofing with the Compagnons du Devoir in 1980. For 10 years, Stéphane perfected his knowledge and his mastery by obtaining the roofer's CAP in 1982, then in 1987 the certificate of perfection, followed by the professional certificate in 1989, and the master's certificate in 1991. In 1989, Stéphane was awarded the Compagnon du Devoir, a distinction that did not prevent him from continuing to perfect his art, quite the contrary.

An international journey through history, time, techniques and savoir-faire

Engaged in his tour of France with Les Compagnons du Devoir, Stéphane continues to refine his skills and techniques by working in various French cities with a renowned expertise and rich history such as Nantes, Bordeaux, Troyes, Reims and Paris. In his quest for knowledge and excellence, Stéphane decided to spend some time in Switzerland for a training in tinsmithing and thus obtained the diploma of tinsmithing in Bernes.

His quest for perfection and mastery also took him across the Channel, to Scotland to be precise, where he learned to master the techniques of working with lead, a metal that is hard to tame. Upon his return to France, Stéphane spent a year as a training instructor at the Lead Information Center.

The Birth of L'Atelier Auder D'Ornements

Passionate about roofing ornaments and gathering all his know-how, Stéphane created in 1996 his own company as an ornamental artisan (craftsman). There is no training school for roof ornaments, however, driven by his passion, supported by his know-how and the mastery of techniques learned over the years, he learns this exceptional profession practically on his own.

Transmission of knowledge to new generations of ornamentalists

Today, Stéphane transmits within the Atelier Auder d'Ornements, the know-how of this exceptional profession. 3 ornamentalists have already been trained under his supervision and teachings, and a 4th is currently in training.

His commitment to the transmission of knowledge and to preserving the integrity of the know-how techniques, also lead him to write the subjects of the competitions for the Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2015 and 2018. On these two competitions, three candidates out of four obtained the diploma in the metallic ornamentalist category.
